![]() Frosted Sweet Heart Designed By: Kathleen George Typical Project Completion Time: 1-2 hours (does not include drying time) Large Frosted Sweet Heart MATERIALS NEEDED: STYROFOAM* Brand Foam: 1 Heart, 6" x 1" Other Materials: Spackling compound, 8 oz. Acrylic craft paint: pastel pink, purple, yellow, green Mixing utensils: bowl, table knife Cake decorator with tips Plastic wrap 12 " of 1" satin ribbon Low temperature glue gun and glue sticks |
| INSTRUCTIONS: 1. Prepare spackling compound to use as icing. Place 1/2 of spackling medium in bowl and whip until smooth with table knife. Add water, 1/2 teaspoon at a time, till smooth and thin enough to extrude through cake decorator. Conduct a test run; add more water if necessary. Cover container with plastic wrap until ready to use white "icing". 2. Prepare remaining spackling compound, dividing into small portions and coloring with acrylic paints. (Note: food coloring will not tint the spackling compound; you must use acrylic craft paint.) 3. Spread "icing" on foam heart with table knife; ice sides first and then top. Decorate heart with cake decorator, just like you would a cake. The model pictured used the following tips: small leaf, flower, medium star and round. If desired, use small round tip to write "To a Sweet Heart". Immediately wash all utensils with warm, soapy water when done. 4. Let dry overnight. 5. Make a loop with 4" length of ribbon; glue to back of heart. Tie remaining ribbon in bow; pin to top of heart. This is a pdf file (12kb, and requires acrobat reader. MATERIALS NEEDED: STYROFOAM* Brand Foam: 1 Sheet, 1/2" thick Other Materials: Metal cookie cutter, heart shaped Serrated knife Spackling compound, 8 oz. Acrylic craft paint: pink, white, purple, green, yellow Mixing utensils: bowl, table knife Cake decorator with tips Plastic wrap Heavy weight construction paper Scissors Low temperature glue gun and glue sticks INSTRUCTIONS: 1. Using Pattern A and the serrated knife, cut 3" hearts from foam sheet. (Hint: For smoother cuts, wax the knife blade with an old candle.) Or, make hearts by pressing cookie cutter into foam sheet. Smooth rough edges with a scrap of foam. 2. Prepare spackling compound, following Steps 1 and 2 above. 3. Decorate hearts as in Step 3 above. 4. Let dry overnight. 5. Using Pattern B, cut hearts from construction paper; fold in half. Write sweet messages inside; glue cards to back of iced hearts.
