Frosted Sweet Heart

Frosted Sweet Heart
Designed By: Kathleen George

Typical Project Completion Time: 1-2 hours (does not include drying time)
Large Frosted Sweet Heart
MATERIALS NEEDED: STYROFOAM* Brand Foam:
1 Heart, 6" x 1"

Other Materials:
Spackling compound, 8 oz.
Acrylic craft paint: pastel pink, purple, yellow, green
Mixing utensils: bowl, table knife
Cake decorator with tips
Plastic wrap
12 " of 1" satin ribbon
Low temperature glue gun and glue sticks

INSTRUCTIONS:

1. Prepare spackling compound to use as icing. Place 1/2 of spackling medium in bowl and whip until smooth with table knife. Add water, 1/2 teaspoon at a time, till smooth and thin enough to extrude through cake decorator. Conduct a test run; add more water if necessary. Cover container with plastic wrap until ready to use white "icing".

2. Prepare remaining spackling compound, dividing into small portions and coloring with acrylic paints. (Note: food coloring will not tint the spackling compound; you must use acrylic craft paint.)

3. Spread "icing" on foam heart with table knife; ice sides first and then top. Decorate heart with cake decorator, just like you would a cake. The model pictured used the following tips: small leaf, flower, medium star and round. If desired, use small round tip to write "To a Sweet Heart". Immediately wash all utensils with warm, soapy water when done.

4. Let dry overnight.

5. Make a loop with 4" length of ribbon; glue to back of heart. Tie remaining ribbon in bow; pin to top of heart.
