Make Your Own Cake-Mix-in-a-Jar with Free Printable Gift Tag

6 c. flour
3 Tbsp. baking powder
1-1/2 c. Crisco
4 c. sugar
2 tsp. salt

In large bowl combine flour, sugar, baking powder and salt. With pastry blender, cut in the shortening until mixture resembles cornmeal. Pack in airtight jars, using at least two cups of mix per jar. Store in a cool, dry place. If possible, use within one month but if kept cool and dry it WILL keep slightly longer.

8 Inch Cake for 2

2 c. cake mix
1 tsp. vanilla
1 egg, slightly beaten
1/2 c. milk

Stir ingredients for plain cake until well blended. Pour into 8-inch square pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 25 to 30 minutes.

Two-Layer Cake

4 c cake mix
2 tsp vanilla
2 eggs, slightly beaten
1 c milk

Combine ingredients and mix until well blended. Pour into 2 8" layer cake pans OR a 9 x 13" pan and bake at 350 degrees for 25 to 30 minutes or until cake tests done.

Instructions for Free Printable Gift Tag:

Select, or highlight, the gift tag shown below, using your cursor. Print, choosing "selection" as your option rather than printing the whole page. Cut out the square, fold front page to the back, along the horizontal center line. Next, fold again, along the vertical line, to place the illustration on the front and the instructions on the inside of your gift tag. Punch a hole in the top left corner and attach to the jar with a piece of yarn or ribbon.

If you would like to make your gift extra special, check out how to make the Wheatsheaf Painted Jars. They are very simple in design and all you need is jars, yellow paint marker and another paint marker color for the bow.
